Short Program 1
Start with Yourself:
Personal Change for Educational Transformation
May 29—30, 2012
In collaboration with ThreeJoy
While much of engineering education reform focuses on specific pedagogical approaches or changes in content, the attitudes, values, and skills that faculty members bring into the classroom play an enormous, and often unacknowledged, role in determining student outcomes. Drawing on theories of language, adult development, neuroscience, and motivation, this 1.5 day workshop will help participants to identify their own attitudes and values with respect to teaching, to develop skills for more effective interaction with colleagues and students, and become more reflective and supportive in their teaching practice. At the end of this workshop you will not have designed a new class — but you will have changed the way you think about teaching!
Short Program 1 provides an eye-opening opportunity for any reflective faculty member to reconsider how we shape our students' experiences. It is suitable for novice faculty members and those who want to re-invigorate their teaching alike.
